EPA Phase-Out of Mercury Thermometers

Mercury is a proven powerful neurotoxin with severe harmful side effects.  Due to the high cost of cleanup and neurological damage from Mercury exposure, most states prohibit the sale of thermometers containing Mercury.  As part of a broader initiative, the EPA is promotoing the removal of existing Mercury thermometers.   Miljoco is supporting the EPA program by promoting awareness and educating the industry as a whole of mercury-free alternatives and the proper disposal of existing Mercury thermometers.

Miljoco offers 7" and 9" liquid in glass Non-Toxic Blue Organic Spirit Filled Thermometers (SX735/SX935 series), and Solar Digital versions (CDX935)

ESP-ESP DESIGN PLUS Selection Software

For those of you using ONLINE versions of the pump selection software, with the transition from ITT to XYLEM, there has been some inconsistencies in the software over the past week or two as the data centers have been realigning the software.   We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.  The factory is committed to improving the website stability and we believe you will see significant improvement in content and speed shortly.  Also, please note that there are distinct selection programs depending on which type of equipment you're trying to select.  A single menu of these is available at  https://esp.itt.com/lite1/launch_app.htm  You'll see the following menu:

ESP-Design Plus:

B&G: Multistage, Pressure Booster Packages, Wastewater

               Vertical Turbines

ESP-Plus:

B&G: Pump Selection: circulators, end suction, close-               coupled, Inline, Double Suction

ESP-Parts:

      B&G: Parts

Steam-2000

Hoffman: Steam 2000 series Pressure/T regulator selection

Steam-1140

Sizing Tools:

System Syzer, Steam-Pipe, Steam-Loss, Flash Steam, and condensate pipe sizing tools are also listed here...and the factory is working on providing more online tools that will be added to enhance current capability.

Lochinvar announces Multi-Temp Control

Ever have a system where using different hot water supply temps is needed?  Like a new addition using radiant floor heating zone (110F), mixed with an existing zone with vav reheat coils (140F) and an existing perimeter fin tube system or hot water ahu coils (180F)?  Check out Lochinvar's new  stand alone control panel that integrates to the 2nd generation Lochinvar Knight Boiler(s) and manages up to 3 loop temperatures, loop pumps and mixing valves and communicates to the Knight boiler to deliver and control boiler temperature for each zone, plus domestic water prioritization if needed.  Full information can be found at  http://www.lochinvar.com/products/Default.aspx?type=ProductLine&lineID=186

Steam Tips

Float and Thermostatic type traps are best for modulating loads (heat exchangers, end of mains, anywhere a steam control valve is used).   These should be mounted a minimum of 15" below the condensate outlet of the equipment served (to provide 1/2 psig of water head).  Piping on the outlet of the trap must drain the condensate by gravity (no overhead returns).  If this can't be accomplished, you need a condensate pump. If you need a condensate pump, look for one that has low NPSH like the Domestic CBE series.  F&T's pass condensate at saturation temperature.  This means that the condensate pump will see less than 1 foot available NPSH (at 212 degree or higher).  If we can assist with your application, please just let us know.
